How to set up a Tennessee Health Insurance Plan
Look for the features you really want. If you want office visit copays, ask yourself how many times a year you actually go to the doctor. Often times a HSA plan with no office visit copays saves far more than you would spend at the doctors office in a year. The real trick with health insurance is to buy as much coverage as you need, but make sure you are protected in case of a large event.
Preexisting conditions health insurance in Tennessee
Certain carriers treat preexisting conditions differently. All Tennessee Health Insurance is subject to some form of medical underwriting, and there are a variety of ways that the different carriers treat preexisting medical conditions. Some companies will put a rider on a condition, saying they will not cover anything related to the specific service. Others will increase rates by a percentage rate, because of the possibility of added expenses. Some carriers will do both. There is also a chance that a carrier will decline you coverage completely based on any specific medical condition. If you need information about the ways specific carriers treat a condition, or which carrier would be best for your particular needs, please contact us for more information. The last thing you want to do is apply for a plan that has no chance of accepting you.

Types of Tennessee Health Insurance Plans
- PPO - A PPO is a "preferred provider organization". What this means is that there is a network of doctors who accept the insurance as "in network" and provide care at lower rates. Going to doctors that are out of network is allowed, but will incur higher costs.
- HSA - A HSA is a "Health Savings Account". Insurance plans referred to as HSA plans allow you to have a Health Savings Account along with your insurance policy, that allows you to transfer money into a specific bank account set up for medical expenses. You do not have to pay income taxes on money put into this account, and can use it to purchase a specific list of allowable expenses.
- HMO - A HMO is a "Health Management Organization". They require the use of in-network doctors only unless it is an emergency. They tend to be less expensive, but very restrictive as to rules of treatment and which doctors you can use.
- Limited Benefit - A limited benefit plan is a cost alternative to major medical insurance that require limited medical underwriting and provide benefits that you would normally find in major medical insurance, usually with limitations such as a daily cap on expenditures or a yearly cap on medications provided. They are typically less comprehensive than major medical insurance, but with much less in depth underwriting requirements and lower costs.
